In the 21st century, we all realize that we belong to a global
community and socialize mostly in an urban landscape. This has
been the natural outcome of the advance of technology and
transportation, taking place since the end of the previous century.
As a result, multinational companies, their products and ads have
propagated this global civilization, using the letters as an urban
visual puzzle of codes, connecting different cultures, religions and
policies.
Since the beginning of human writing activity, what games has the
letter initiated! Take a letter: you will see its secret getting deeper
in its infinite associations, where you will find everything, the whole
world: its history and yours. (Roland Barthes, 2006).
In the project CODE CONNECTS, artists with different backgrounds
will visualize artistically all this urban translanguaging, symbols of
writing, bar codes, numbers and other types of texting. Citizens
daily undergo this plethora of information and writing form in their
cityscape proximity. To show this text diversity, artists will use
artistic medium and tool diversity , too. CODE CONNECTS aspires to
be a platform that raises the voice of freedom, peace and fraternity.
The code of letters, as a basic means of communication, is found in
the essence of human existence and thus it gives this project a
unique importance. The artists express themselves freely,
commenting on the urban society and thus take a political stance.
CODE CONNECTS a potentially divided world and makes it a more
sustainable living space. A space where all identities find their place
and inner peace.
